Appointments System

At Brackley Medical Centre we have a mix of pre bookable, routine face to face and telephone appointments, Monday to Friday, from 08:00am to 18.30pm. 

If you have an urgent 'on the day' requirement for the Urgent Care Unit please complete an online form at or call us on 01280 702436 and your request will be triaged by the Urgent Care Unit team.

We are open for additional 'extended access' appointments as follows:

Monday: 18:30 – 20:00
Tuesday: 18:30 – 20:00
Wednesday: 18.30 - 20.00
Thursday: 07:00 – 08:00 and 18.30 - 20.00
Friday: 18.30 - 20.00
Saturday: 08.30 - 12.00
Sunday: 08.30 - 11.30

Please note these appointments are pre-bookable sessions and we cannot accommodate walk in patients or emergencies. Without an appointment you will need to call the Out of Hours GP Service on 111.

All our routine appointments are all 15 minutes long, if you have several problems there may well not be time to address them all effectively in one consultation and you may need to rebook. You can book a double appointment if required.

All appointments are for one patient only, therefore if another member of your family or household need to be seen you must book one appointment for each patient

If you require a particular doctor or an appointment on a particular day you may have to book 2 to 4 weeks in advance and this will vary. However, if you are more flexible re day, time or doctor then there will be more routine appointments available for you to book. We also offer on-line booking and would encourage you to use this service wherever possible, please ask reception for more details.


Sending photos of your condition to your GP

If we are conducting a telephone consultation the chances are we might ask you to send in a photograph of your condition.

Patient Navigators

To assist our GP’s in prioritising their workloads, we have very experienced Patient Navigators, who work closely with, and under the supervision of, the GPs. They have been trained by our GP’s and gained a certificate in Care Navigation. They are there to help you and address your queries efficiently.

You may be contacted by them to gather information for the GP.

They may often be able to help you without the need to go through the GP, therefore providing a quicker response. 

Please note the Patient Navigators will not make clinical decisions and will follow surgery protocols supported by the GPs.

Home Visits

Home visits will be made at the discretion of the duty doctor.

Please do not ask the doctor to make a home visit unless the patient is genuinely too ill to come to the Surgery. A rash or temperature does not prevent patients coming to the Surgery and will not endanger others. If the receptionist feels it is necessary, a patient can be found a room away from other patients in which to wait for the doctor.

Where the condition of a patient does require a home visit, please ring the Surgery (preferably before 10.00am) on 01280 702436. The receptionist will take your details and forward them to the duty doctor who will then contact you to assess the urgency
of the request and arrange a time for the visit. Home visits are normally made during the lunch hour after normal surgeries have finished.

Telephone Advice

You will be made a telephone consultation appointment and the GP will phone you as close to the time as possible.  Please ensure that you are available to take this call as the GP will only try to contact you twice.  Please note that our calls will come through as either a withheld or unknown number.

Cancel an Appointment

It is important that you inform the reception staff if you are unable to attend your appointment, this will allow that appointment to be offered to another patient. 

Text Reminder Service

We have a texting service which allows you to receive confirmation and reminders about your appointments.

To have this service you will need to register by completing a consent form.

Please remember to update your contact details with us when you change address, telephone numbers and email address.

Training Practice

We are proud to be a long-established training practice. As part of our teaching commitment, doctors and Practice Managers from other practices occasionally visit the medical centre to assess our standards and suitability to train GP’s.

Additionally, doctors occasionally video their consultations to assess and improve their skills. We will always seek your consent before this takes place and you can of course decline. As you would expect, the normal strict rules of confidentiality apply to these processes.

GP Registrar Training

GP Registrars are attached to the practice as part of the North Oxfordshire GP Training Scheme. They are a FULLY QUALIFIED DOCTOR having already completed several years of hospital training. They usually join us for a six month attachment or for one year to complete their specialist GP Training. Dr Stevens, Dr Harrison, Dr Parsons and Dr Beardsworth are GP trainers and are currently responsible for GP registrar training.

Medical Student Teaching

Occasionally we are joined by medical students. They will sit in on surgeries, accompany doctors and nurses on visits and may see some patients on their own briefly before being joined by the supervising professional. You will be informed if a medical student is present and be given the opportunity to say if you do not wish them to be there when you see the doctor or nurse.

Dr Parsons is currently responsible for medical student training in the practice.

Continued Professional Development and Protected Learning Time

We are all committed not only to help train new health care professions, but to continue the development of our own knowledge and skills.

To that end, we regularly have clinical and team meetings for education as well as to cover business and administration matters.
